Danielle Turvey

Danielle has always had a passion for the arts, and started dancing at the young age of two years old. She is a graduate of the Dance Performance Studies Program at George Brown College. While attending George Brown, she was a part of the touring performance ensemble and performed in many shows across Ontario. Danielle also had the opportunity to perform many pieces of repertoire from Ballet Jorgen Canada, and also had the chance to perform in Ballet Jorgen Canada's production of "Anastasia". Danielle is also in a professional Bollywood dance company, where she has performed at many great events such as PRIDE Toronto, and performed on Breakfast Television for the DVD premier of "Slumdog Millionaire". She also performed in the opening number of the Toronto Gilda's club performance of "It's always something'' with Canadian stars such as, Russell Peters, The Four Tenors, Divine Brown and Steven Page. Danielle was also part of Season 2 of So You Think You Can Dance Canada, where she received praise from Mary Murphy (So You Think You Can Dance, U.S). She also has been choreographing different dance pieces, and has had the chance to perform them in cabaret shows, dance festivals as well as PRIDE Toronto. Danielle has worked with top choreographers in Las Vegas as well as New York City including, Mia Michaels, Wade Robson, Shane Sparks and Dave Scott. Danielle was also awarded the title of ''I love Dance Sweetheart'' for three years, and performed in two gala shows at Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas. She also played many roles in ''The Nutcracker'' including, The Sugar Plum Fairy, The Snow Queen and the Nutcracker. Danielle was also a part of the Junior Associates program at the National Ballet School, and attended Quinte Ballet School's Professional Summer School. Danielle is accomplished in theatre and vocals and was awarded the "Vocal Excellence Award" from George Brown Dance. Danielle was awarded many special awards, overalls and judges' awards over the past year for her unique choreography ideas, and student's technical ability. She was also awarded a choreography choice of the day award out of 700 routines. Danielle had students competiting at "Shine Dance Competition's" Nationals this summer where she had dances place in the top 10! Her dances were also awarded special awards at National's. Danielle loves to watch her students succeed and improve and grow. She is excited for the upcoming year with the students of Kreative Urban Tribe!

Tyler Morris

Tyler Morris has been skating since an early age. Starting as a singles skater, Tyler started competing at provincial competitions. He then ventured into the ice dance world. He has had much success with his current partner becoming the 2009 Canadian Novice Dance Champions. He is now currently representing Canada in International competitions throughout the world. Recently, Tyler has had the opportunity of performing with stars such as Kurt Browning, Patrick Chan and other world champions. Tyler trained at the world renowned "Mariposa School of Skating" in Barrie. To further his skating Tyler has trained in Ballet, Modern, Ballroom, Jazz and Hip Hop. He has had lead roles in both the musical "Chicago" and in the ballet "The Nutcracker". Tyler's partnering routines have been awarded many special awards, overalls and judges choice awards for the unique and powerful lifts. Tyler had student's competiting at "Shine Dance Competition's" National's this summer, where one of his routines placed in the top 10 and was awarded a special award! Tyler is very excited to be working with the students of KUT.

Sam Price

Samantha has been dancing since the age of 4. Over the years, she has also taken both piano and singing lessons, competing in the Kiwanis’s Music competition placing 1st in her respective category. With her real love being dance, she joined Kreative Urban Tribe at the age of 10 and became part of the competitive team. Samantha has been competing throughout Ontario since 2005. She has been trained in many styles such as Hip-Hop, Lyrical, Contemporary, Tap, Ballet, Jazz, and more. Samantha’s strongest styles and passion are Hip-Hop and Contemporary. She has won a variety of special awards throughout the competition season including awards for her emotion, connection with other dancers, and overall performance. She also received honours by successfully completing her grade 3 jazz exams, and continues to train to further her grades in dance. Samantha recently had the opportunity to compete with her solo at the Shine Competition Nationals as well as other dances in July 2011. Along with dancing at the studio, Samantha also competes with the dance team at Bear Creek Secondary school. She has been teaching and choreographing hip hop since 2009, and looks forward to continuing her teaching and sharing her love for dance at Kreative Urban Tribe.

Mariah Awaiye

Mariah started dancing at the age of 4. She joined a competitive dance team at the age of 8 and competed throughout Canada and the United States. She has trained with choreographers such as Luther Brown, Brenda Morin, Showtime, Blake McGrath, Gregory Hines and Danielle Turvey. Mariah has been classified as a triple threat. From a young age Mariah began to sing as well as act. In May of 2008, Mariah competed in CMTC, where placed 3rd within her acting category. In her later years, Mariah has excelled within the competitive dance world winning numerous overall awards and speciality awards. Mariah was partnered with Jamie Hall from B101, in Barrie's "Dancing with the Stars" placing 5th in the competition. In addition, Mariah made it into the finals for "So You Think You Can Dance Barrie" in the 2009 season. Mariah is the scholarship winner and titleholder of the 12 and over solo performances from “All Out Dance” 2010. She is also the 2011 winner of “Luv 2 Dance” Award and scholarship at Luv 2 Dance. She was awarded with many special awards over the competitive season. Some for her own performances as well as for her students. Mariah continues to strive to be the best not only in her dancing but also in her teaching. Mariah will be attending “Shine Dance Competitions” Nationals this summer at the Deerhurst Resort! She is very excited for the upcoming year with the amazing students of Kreative Urban Tribe.

Nathlineen Doung

Nathlineen Doung has been dancing since the age of 16.  He went to Westview Centennial Secondary School where he took the basics of many genres of dance such as: Ballet, Ballroom, African, Modern, Jazz and Hip Hop.  In the year 2004, he began to take an extreme interest in hip-hop: especially in the genres of popping, isolating and waving.

Nathlineen love for dance brought him to extend his knowledge and skill by taking classes all over Toronto. He has trained with many people such as: Luther Brown (Judge from So You Think You Can Dance Canada), Tre Armstrong (Judge from So You Think You Can Dance Canada), Lenny Dela Pena, Mariano Abarka, Miles Faber, Kelly Gammie and many more.

He's worked with artists such as EOS, Kreesha Turner, The General and more.  He was also seen on television on the So You think You Can Dance Canada where he made Toronto week for season 2.

Nathlineen continues to further improve his skills in dance and is currently training in the genres of Jazz and Ballet.  He is eager to share his knowledge with others and will share with anyone who has the thirst and hunger to learn!

Heather Vance

Heather Vance is excited to be joining the artistic team at K.U.T for our 2011 and 2012 dance season as our musical theatre coach. She has been actively involved in professional and community theatre for over 20 years. As the camp director for Beaverton Town Hall Players for the past four years she has helped children develop their love of the arts while they have performed in plays such as the Wizard of Oz, Grease, The Snow Queen, and most recently the Alice in Wonderland and Mary Poppins. As an actor, singer, dancer, choreographer, director and theatre coach Heather believes that the theatre is a place where everyone belongs. Heather creates a safe and encouraging environment where children can explore and develop their talents and will teach them skills that will expand their love for performing, build their self esteem, and give them the confidence to reach for the stars.

Most recent theater credentials include, Marion the Librarian ( The Music Man), Callie   (The Killing Snow), Laura (Mash 6000), Mary (Knickers).

Shannon Murray

Shannon has always loved to be in the studio.  She started her dance career at the age of 4 and has loved every minute of it!  Initially training in Toronto she would eventually move to London where she would complete many R.A.D. and B.A.T.D. examinations culminating in her B.A.T.D. Associate Membership, as well as being 1 of 28 senior candidates selected from across Canada and the U.S. to compete for an international Stage/Tap scholarship.  She began dancing competitively at the age of 8, starting with tap, ballet, jazz and acro.  Eventually she expanded her dance repertoire to also include lyrical, modern, pointe, hip-hop, character, musical theatre and song & dance.  As a competitive dancer she has been awarded many adjudicator’s choice and overall awards.  As well as attending international and finals in Orlando, Florida and being part of one of two dance troupes selected to represent Canada at a ‘Dance Excellence’ international convention in California.

Shannon has 10 years of teaching experience and loves to encourage and inspire her students both young and old.  Her main focus and passion is tap but she also loves to teach lyrical/contemporary, jazz, and acro.  She understands the importance of staying current in the dance world.  As such, she has attended The Pulse’s Teacher workshop in NYC (Shane Sparks, Michelle Dorrance, Wade Robson), The Pulse in Chicago (Tyce Diorio, Mia Michaels), taken class at Broadway Centre (Barbara Duffy-tap legend, Anthony LoCascio-Tap Dogs). And most recently attended Shawn Byfield’s summer tap intensive in Toronto, where she was lucky enough to take class with Shawn himself, as well as David Cox and S.Y.T.Y.C.D.’s Everett Smith. 

Shannon thoroughly enjoys teaching and it shows on her students, many of them winning adjudicator’s choice awards, overall high point awards, and cash scholarships both nationally and internationally.  She is very excited to be joining the team at KUT and can’t wait to start working with their wonderful students and staff.

Megan Sutherland

Megan Sutherland took an interest in dance at a young age however, it wasn't until the age of nine when Megan took her first dance class, and fell in love with dance. She has been trained in Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Lyrical, Modern, and Hip Hop. Megan has also completed her Jazz and Ballet RAD exams.

Megan joined a Competitive Dance Team at the age of ten, where she travelled all over Canada and the Untied States. While competing in the United States at the " I Love Dance" Competition, Megan won a dance scholarship to Las Vegas to dance with some of the top chorographers. She has played many roles in the Nutcracker including Sugar Plum fairy, Angel Queen, and many other parts within the Nutcracker.

Megan has previous experience teaching dance and is excited to work with the KUT dancers and is excited to share her love for dance with them!

Haley Gill

With 14 years of dance under her belt, Haley has found dedication and passion for this artistic sport. She has been technically trained in RAD ballet while enjoying the other styles that challenge her. Haley began taking exams at the age of 6, and continued through-out her dance career attaining consistently high results at each level. Attending a dance school where ballet was the main focus, Haley played many roles in their production of “The Nutcracker” including a range of dolls, the mouse king and Clara. Haley has been competing for 9 years throughout Ontario and the United States. She has been awarded with the title of “I Love Dance Sweetheart” in 2006 and 2008 and also competed in two universal dance pageants in St. Petersburg Florida and St. Louis Missouri. Having won many special awards such as “Soloist of the Year” and “Broadway Baby”, Haley has been very successful in her dance career. Participating in school dance events is something she enjoys to do and does as often as possible. Haley has been dancing at KUT for one year but is looking forward to another. Having assisted in classes last season, Haley is eager to continue teaching and help students grow to their full potential. She also wants to share with others her love for dance.
